Fireworks are a dazzling part of many celebrations — but for our pets, those loud bangs and bright flashes can be frightening. Here are a few gentle ways to help keep them calm and comfortable when the sky lights up.

Create a Cozy Safe Space

Pick a quiet, familiar spot in your home where your pet can retreat. Add their favourite blankets, a few toys, and maybe an old t-shirt that smells like you — a comforting reminder that they’re safe. Encourage them to explore this space before the fireworks start so it becomes their special hideaway when things get noisy.

Try Calming Products

Calming wraps, sprays, supplements, and calming diffusers can make a world of difference in helping pets relax, especially during stressful situations. These products are designed to create a soothing environment and promote a sense of security for pets, which can significantly alleviate anxiety and stress-related behaviors.

Distract with Toys, Treats & Sounds

Soft music, the TV, or gentle white noise can help mask the sound of fireworks. Keep them entertained with interactive toys or puzzle feeders — focusing on a fun activity can ease their anxiety and keep their mind off the noise.

Stay Calm Yourself

Our pets take emotional cues from us. If you stay relaxed and go about your evening as normal, they’ll feel more reassured too. A calm cuddle or treat at the right moment can make all the difference.

Gradual Desensitization

If your pet is especially anxious, try playing low-volume recordings of fireworks and rewarding them for staying calm. Over time, increase the volume slightly. With patience and positive reinforcement, your pet can learn that fireworks don’t have to be scary.

Every pet is unique

What comforts one might not work for another. But with a little preparation, care, and lots of snuggles, you can help your furry companion feel safe and secure when fireworks light up the night.
